Damper adjustment

Design and tuning of the suspension and damping always necessitate a compromise between the criteria of importance to the customer, namely ride comfort on the one hand and driving safety and agility on the other.

DampMatic®:

  • Passive amplitude-selective damper adjustment system

  • Extends the piston rod assembly to include a DampMatic® module comprising the housing and DampMatic® piston

  • At lower excitation amplitudes, the DampMatic® module permits a bypass to the main piston -> reduced characteristic, lower damping forces

  • At higher excitation amplitudes, the DampMatic® piston reaches its limit position and closes the bypass -> high damping forces

  • Installed as standard in Mercedes-Benz class A and B vehicles

Advantages:

  • Low-cost passive adjustment system

  • No control device, no sensors

  • Robust design, few components

ACD II:

  • 2-stage electronically adjustable damping system

  • A bypass to the hollowed stud is opened and closed by a slide valve actuated by an electromagnet integrated into the piston rod

  • Soft characteristic is determined by valve actuation in the bypass line

  • Hard characteristic is achieved by valve actuation on the working piston

ADS:

  • 4-stage electronically adjustable damping system

  • Hardware Skyhook by combining a soft and a hard characteristic for extension and compression stages in the adjustment characteristics

  • Two pistons in an external adjustment module can be individually connected in parallel to the conventional working piston.

  • The four characteristics are as follows (extension/compression): soft/soft ; soft/hard ; hard/soft ; hard/hard

DampTronic®:

  • Electronically infinitely adjustable damping system

  • Bypass adjustment with multi-way valve technology - an infinitely adjustable slide opens a bypass line to the main piston with hard actuation

  • Comfort valve with soft actuation integrated into the bypass line

  • Design with control valve integrated into the piston (DampTronic® I) and with externally adapted control valve (DampTronic® II)

  • Hard and soft characteristics are determined by highly dynamic, passive disk valves

  • Large spread in the area of low damper speeds (advanced opening control)
