The requirements to be met by vehicle springs are rising constantly. Development efforts are therefore geared to developing coil springs with minimum weight, optimum compaction, maximum robustness and minimum costs, while at the same time ensuring optimum functioning of the springs despite these partly contradictory objectives.

In order to realize further reductions in weight, the coil springs used must display a higher level of tension and therefore higher mechanical strength. However, these properties must not have a negative impact on component life. The choice of materials and the manufacturing process are therefore of decisive importance.
